Should there be a National BARD-B-Q day and if so, when should it be?
A FAMILY FUN BBQ DAY to celebrate BURNS' life.

This is to good an idea to dismiss.
The sun is out and I've had my first BBQ of the year.
I'm still hoping that we can have a date set for an annual "Scottish National BARD-B-Q" beginning this summer.
Any suggestions for a significant date in Burns' life which could be used for such an event.

I would suggest the date of his last poem as a nominee but there are a few dates out there:

July 12, 1796. Robert Burns wrote his last poem.
July 21, 1796. RB died in Dumfries (Age 37)
July 25, 1796. The date of Maxwell Burns' birth
July 25, 1796. The day of Robert Burns' funeral in Dumfries.
July 25, 1603 James VI of Scotland was crowned the first king of Great Britain on this day.

That would be 12th July then...... you might find that there's something else being celebrated that day! Could have difficulty in booking a band!

Anyway, in Ireland:

More recently, attempts have been made to play down explicitly political aspects of the parades (as well as any violent history) and present the Twelfth as a "cultural" event, at which tourists are welcome.

RB wqrote to Mrs Dunlop on 10th July 1796, also to his brother Gilbert, on the 12th to his cousin James Burness in Montrose and to George Thomson with the song "Fairest Maid on Devon Banks". On 13th July he wrote to James Gracie, and on the 14th to his wife, (this was from Brow of course), 16th to John Clark, and 18th to James Armour which is commonly taken as his last letter.

This just shows my ignorance. I didn't know that Robert Burns' poems: The Banks of the Devon (1787)and Fairest Maid on Devon Banks(1796) referred to a river in Clackmannanshire, Scotland and not rivers in England's third largest county.

The "Devon" songs come from Burns visits to Clackmannanshire in 1787, and the happy times he spent there in the company of Margaret Chalmers and Charlotte Hamilton. For Charlotte he wrote "The Banks of the Devon" and for Margaret Chalmers "Where Braving Angry Winter's Storms" and "My Peggy's Charms".
Burns maintained a correspondence with Peggy Chalmers after she rejected his marriage proposal and she has to be considered a close friend and confidant.
Enthusiasts in Clackmannanshire often speculate on what might have been if the proposal had been accepted, Burns could have settled at the foot of the Ochils where perhaps his farming would have met better fortunes. He fondly remembered Clackmannanshire throughout his remaining years, "The Banks of the Devon" being a very late composition.
I would also like to highlight that when Burns was at Harvieston he visited Mrs Catherine Bruce in Clackmannan and was "Knighted" by this grand old Lady using the sword of Robert the Bruce.
